Vinyl 2010 presents its model for sustainable development Print

For the second year, Vinyl 2010 is attending the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-15) meeting in New York.

As well as presenting the programme at an Infodesk in the Partnership area, Vinyl 2010 Communications Manager Martyn Griffiths will be a lead speaker in the Partnerships in Practice Interactive Discussion Session: Partnerships Building Cleaner Industries for a Sustainable Future on May 3, introducing Vinyl 2010, the European PVC Industry’s Voluntary Commitment to Sustainable Development, its achievements and results.

The presentation “Vinyl 2010: An Effective Partnership in the Area of Industrial Development” will set out how the European PVC industry, a sector of over 23,000 companies with 530,000 employees is moving towards sustainable development, by cleaning up production processes and taking a life-cycle approach to its products. The industry is committed to sustainable development and to meeting the targets set out in the Voluntary Commitment.

In 2006, over 83,000 tonnes of PVC waste were recycled through the Vinyl 2010 projects, double the amount recycled in 2005.  Since the beginning of the Vinyl 2010 programme, over 27 million euro has been invested.
