The first stage of the PVC lifecycle is production of PVC resin.

Resin producers are constantly working towards minimising the environmental impact and improve eco-efficiency of their products through full compliance by their plants in Europe with the Industry Charters for producing PVC by the suspension (S-PVC) and emulsion (E-PVC) processes.

The charters set challenging limits on industrial emissions, which contribute to the protection of air, water and soil resources. Some of these limits go significantly beyond many European Union and national regulations.  The Charters are submitted to external verification by Det Norska Veritas.
