Life Cycle Analysis Review of PVC & Competing Materials Print

The life cycle analysis (LCA) review does not form part of the industry's Voluntary Commitment but was mentioned in the European Parliament resolution on the Commission's "Green Paper on environmental issues of PVC" (2001) as regrettably missing.

The European Commission in 2002 therefore commissioned a consortium to conduct a review of existing LCA studies on PVC for many applications. Vinyl 2010 members collaborated actively.

Signed off in March 2004, the report concluded that PVC is a material like any other, with both stronger and weaker points, depending on the application and on its use, and that there is no reason to treat PVC differently from any other material.
